Big Idea - Humor

Reflections
Laura found a great way to incorporate the last activity and found a great artist to learn from. The shapes that Murray created were silly-looking, so it still fit in with the humor lesson, yet they were still able to learn quality art concepts in the process. She found many points in the book to slow down and ask thoughtful, open-ended questions that required feedback from the class.

Big Idea - Responsibility

Laura found a great way to integrate lessons among different grades. upon studying responsibility, Laura asked the class what they thought responsibility was, but to a different age group. She was able to let them lead their own interest and gave them responsibility in putting their own work in to the project. She created a good learning environment in that she gave the class choice and the opportunity to pick an animal they found to be interesting.

In giving the students choice, Laura was able to engage the students. She kept the students entertained and curious. She constantly asked the class questions that responded to the work. She asked questions about the work, gave some information, and then asked more questions. She was able to lead the class in discussion without verbally guiding the discussion. The questions that she asked guided the discussion in the direction that she wanted, yet still allowed the class to voice their interpretations of the work.

The way Laura structured her questioning was the way in which she deepened the students' learning. She got the class to think by presenting information and asking an initial question, and then supplied the class with more information to lead more discussion, which deepened their learning. The concept of the lesson was great because they also able to inform one another as they critiqued their own work. They were both able to summarize the information they read, yet the class was able to hear an interpretation of that of the same mindset.

Laura did a great way collaborating here art activities among different grades. She took her big idea responsibility and deepened the content of the curricula. She was able to link the big idea to a more complex situation that challenged the students of that higher age group. It was also interesting how she dispersed the information amongst the students. Laura only printed off a number of different animals and a limited copy of each of those animals. She was able to get the students to choose an animal of their own and allowed them to read about something they were interested in. Then they were able to address that issue and inform other students of their choices. In doing so, she also set up a chance for students, for those who chose the same animal, to compare their own aesthetic choices.
