Kho's Lesson
A Brief Overview
Reflections
6
Kho revolved the lesson around the class, in that she was able to relate her concepts to personal reflections about the students themselves. She also related her lesson to an artist most children would, or should, know very well. Tim Burton not only creates drawings, he applies his skills in to animation. He has made several popular films that children would be able to relate to. For this reason, Kho created a great learning environment where children would be entertained with the supplied materials and motivated to learn more and create artwork in his style.

Kho engaged the students by choosing her curricula wisely. She was able to find drawings of charaters created by Tim Burton that were in popular movies, like the Queen of Hearts and Jack Skelington. because we were familiar with these characters and we were interested in Tim Burton, we were curious to see more drawings and learn more about the information that was being shown.

Not only could the class relate to those characters, Kho was able to explain some of the qualities of the characters. She explained that Tim Burton would use certain shapes to express certain characteristics of that character. Circles represents something different than squares or triangles. She was able to deepen our understanding of why the characters looked they way they did. Upon this realization, we were able to apply these concepts to our own drawings and further strengthen our understanding of the concepts.

Kho was successful in centralizing her lesson around imagination. She incorporated Natalie's lesson and continued to make the activity personal. There should have been more focus to the concepts during the instruction, though Kho required us to apply the concepts during the demonstration. Asking the class to repeat the steps of the activity would have been a great way to solidify the process and highlight the concepts that the class should be incorporating in to the activity.
