Feldman Model
The Feldman model is used to engage and deepen students in learning about a painting (artist). The four steps include: describe, analyze, interpret, and critique.
Describe
There is a man sitting down and a man kneeling on the ground next to him. The man sitting is holding something. They are outside and there are plants. Both of the men are smiling. The man sitting down has a colorful robe on, a circle above his head, and his shoes are off of his feet sitting next to him. The colors in the background are slightly dull. There are multiple boarders around the picture and the frame is very detailed.
Analyze
There are a lot of warm tones. There is use of complementary colors. The picture is very balanced compositionally. The background shows a lot of depth. The picture conveys movement throughout the piece.
Interpret
The man sitting down seems to be holding a scepter and has a halo around his head, perhaps indicating that he is a king or ruler. By the large empty space behind them, this might be the start of a new civilization. The plants in the surrounding area suggest that the environment will prosper. Perhaps the king or ruler is recruiting people or bestowing power on to other man. Because the man sits higher above everything shows that he holds a lot of power and is the most important subject in the picture.
Critique
I think the picture was very successful. The picture has many details that supply the viewer with a lot of information that implies a narrative about the piece. Everything from the expressions and body positions of the figures to the colors they choose give meaning and add to the narrative that is being told. The environment was empty for a reason, likewise there were plant growing in that empty environment, perhaps indicating that the ruler was intelligent for choosing this prosperous area to build his civilization.
