Jim Rygiel
Quotes
“We were all shocked at how you could make something so real out of a computer… Looking back on it now, it looks worse than PlayStation.”
It was amazing to see how far visual effects have come throughout the years. Seeing Rygiel’s early work, it was odd to imagine that people were blown away from its realism. I was also amazed to see the progressions he made throughout time. I could not believe how many films he had worked on. And each film left me puzzled, wondering how he was able to accomplish the things he did.
“One of the exercises we did were one-second sketches, in which you literally drew a human figure in one second.”
At first, I thought to myself, what a ridiculous exercise, yet there was some truth to this exercise. It would get you to focus on the end product and refrain from fidgeting on minor details. I am not much of a graphic designer. I like things to be hands on and modify things with my bare hands or directly with a tool. For me, this would be one of the hardest things for me to do, yet I think it would be a great exercise for students to focus on the big picture and focus on subject matter as a whole.
