Child Art Analysis
In reading articles about childhood art, we were asked to observe a drawing created by a child and analyze it, defining what stage the child is in and describing the characteristics of the drawing that place them in that stage.
Drawing
There is definitely a narrative to this drawing. The student clearly can define shapes, and even has labeled the figures. I noticed that the shapes are very structured due to the fact that the clouds are aligned in a row. To me this suggests that they understand the concept of left and right. The student has defined a line and the ground plain suggesting they understand the concept of up and down. The scale of “Collin, Jack, and Evie” is much larger than the house, which emphasizes the importance of these figures, however there is no sense of depth because the figures and the house all lay on the same ground line. From this, the child appears to be in Roland's symbolism stage.
